Every Thursday Bonnie and Blog will pick out the best things to do in Funkytown over the weekend.   The eats, the sights, the events, YOU NAME IT.

We present the first Weekend Setlist.

Friday - Music Night

1. Jazz by the Boulevard - We say get there at 5:30, right after work (skip the Happy Hour biz, and get your drinks here.)   First order of business should be FOOD.  The Cooking Carnivale at JBTB is a dream

Event goers will enjoy watching local celebrity chefs display their mastery of the culinary arts while promoting current endeavors such as cooking shows, cookbooks, classes, the latest kitchen equipment and restaurants.

After you’ve got the food of your choice, it’s time to hear some jazz.  Now you could go to the Coor Light Main Stage, but that’s not where we’d start off.  We’re going over to the UTA Heritage Stage to hear the UTA Jazz Ensemble.  College jazz kids are the best - they play with heart and quirk - and let’s get serious…  It’s always fun to take the path less traveled.

After that you should go hear Funkadelic at the main stage.  Hang out, bring friends, drink well.

2.)The Moon - Around ten-ish, head over to Berry St.  End your night by supporting some local artists - Blackwater Draw. They’re a little bit folk, little bit rock, and completely Fort Worth.  At the Moon you can get some drinks, say hi to the TCU kids, and most definitely play Big Buck Hunter. When it’s all said and done, stop by Fuzzy’s for a little guac and maybe a scooner (that is if you have a designated driver.)

12th, SATURDAY - WHATDAY

1) Zest Fest - it’s only once a year at Will Rogers Memorial Center… On Saturday, it starts at 10AM (a great time for some spicy wake up sauce)  and it lasts until six.  Check out the website here.

2) Fall Galley Night 2009 - This is always an event you should never miss.  After you’ve had your fill of salsa, head over to one of the many participating galleries.  Here’s a pdf with the whole list of exhibits.

BUT if we had to pick one, we’d say go to Art Space 111The Letter from the Boneyard series will blow your mind, and we’re super excited to see the sculptures by Danville Chadbourne.

3) Paco & John’s - If you started your day with spicy, you’ve got to end it with Mexican food.  This is our favorite place right now (one of the best perks is that it’s BYOB.) You can read this review at Fort Worth Hole In The Wall. …so bring some Negro Modelo and don’t forget to order the guac.

13th, Sunday -Day of Rest

1) Go to the Movies - It’ll be a hard choice on Sunday… Should we see Lorna’s Silence at the Modern with all the old folk OR see Nine with all the goth kids at the Rave.

LORNA’S SILENCE

NINE

We’re going with Nine… Coraline was amazing, and goth kids are harmless.

2) Palio’s and Hip Pocket - If you go out to Hip Pocket to see White Elephant(which you totally should), here’s the best way to do it.  First go eat at arguably the best pizza place in Fort Worth - Palios on Bryant Irving. (Google Mapped here)

It’s BYOB so bring a cheap wine and order a pizza with the whole wheat crust.  We’d suggest getting at Palio’s around six. That way you can leave by 7 and get to Hip Pocket just in time for some live music before the play. Read more about the play here.
